Have you ever visited blogs in which you just kept scrolling and scrolling down the page seeing endless blog posts? This type of thing is called infinite scrolling and one such example is the Mashable blog. Believe it or not, some blog owners actually use this feature if they have a lot of blog posts being published each day or week. Myself, I’m not all convinced it’s the right way to showcase your content. I’m more of the guy who likes to list a certain amount of posts per page.
In the event that you are interested in this infinite scrolling feature, the following plugins can make that happen. These plugins I have looked through, including the features, and determined they are 4 of the best options out there.
Performance Tip

A drawback of some of these infinite scrolling plugins is that on the blog homepage where you show your latest blog posts, the footer links will never show up. Instead, they will show up on individual blog posts. This can be different depending on the plugin.

4 Infinite Scrolling Plugins
1. Ajax Load More – Infinite Scrolling

The Ajax Load More plugin is a unique plugin in its own way. What this plugin does is it loads a certain amount of blog posts on the page and as you scroll down it will load another set of posts. It’s a little hard to explain. I’ll show an image of it loading the next set of blog posts and share the good features. Surprisingly this doesn’t cause a performance decrease but it depends on how many plugins you have and the coding of your theme.

Features
- Shortcode Builder
- Query Parameters
- Customizable Repeater Templates
- Setting Panel
- Multiple Instances
- Multisite Compatibility
Visit the Ajax Load More details page to get more information or download.
2. Ajax Pagination and Infinite Scroll

The Ajax Pagination & Infinite Scroll is more than just an infinite scroll plugin. I like this plugin better because of its features and the ability to choose between infinite scrolls and it’s wooCommerce compatible. Here are those features.
Features
- Infinite Scroll – Automatically load new posts when the user reaches the bottom of the screen
- Load More Button – Click to load new posts
- Pagination

3. JetPack Infinite Scroll

The JetPack Scroll comes with the JetPack plugin. This means installing 1 less plugin and throughout last year and now this year, the JetPack plugin has gotten so much better.
4. Auto Load Next Post

Have you heard of the Auto Load Next Post before? Incase you have not, check out this plugin if you have a few minutes. What this plugin does is in a minute. When I installed this plugin I got a warning message to intergrade the theme with the plugin. You can do this by adding this line of code in the bottom of your functions.php file and save that. Then click on hide notice bar.

Final Thoughts
Again, I am not a fan of the infinite scrolling but I will admit on some blogs it does suite the blog perfectly. Then again blogs like mashable have a custom coded theme with custom coded plugins so things work out well with this feature. There are more of these plugins in the WordPress plugin database but most of them have not been updated in a long time and that’s why I didn’t mention them.
Do let me know if you enable the infinite scroll on your blog. I would love to see it in action. Mention your blog along with a comment so I can take a look.
Don’t forget to share this blog post if it’s been helpful in any way.
